Hectic Is The New Normal (Oslo Travel Log #4)

My time is insane every time I come to Oslo. I’ve been running behind in meetings again and it took me all day to manage to finish a 20 minutes job (and that’s after being in the office by 08:30 to try to get some time to do work). I had to wait until tonight to have any time to take photos (even lunch was a work lunch).

Park gate

These photos aren’t very inspiring, but they’re practice for me.

To walk a little but and to take some photos I went to one of the main parks in Oslo. It’s always busy and is full of statues, many of them naked.

Statues
More statues

There are statues of all styles and all kinds.

Round statue

More people statues.

Slightly disturbing art

I know it’s a cliché to take photos of people taking photos.

Taking photos of the statues

Strangely there is an old phone box in the middle of the park.

Red phone box

How could I resist taking a photo of a foot sticking out from behind a tree?

Foot

The fountains are still running but it’s getting cold. I had to wear a jacket this morning and tonight. It really feels like winter is arriving here.

I was attracted to the pattern on the ground and the curve I thought would fit well in a square frame. I also tried to place the square lights (squares within square) is a roughly symmetrical position within the frame.

Ground pattern

More patterns on the ground. I saw that guy come into the gap in the middle, but having to set up the camera nearly made me miss him. I very quickly cantered the circle, and looked for symmetry with the lines and the square lights.

Sun

More squares within the square frame. I tried to have as many kinds of symmetry in this shot, with in addition the repetition of the squares going into the distance.

Squares everywhere!

The stone patterns on the ground were crazy interesting. The lines, the textures, and way it all fits together.

Stone patterns

Trying to capture layers and depth.

Stairway to?

A little bit further, I tried to frame the circular sculpture in the background using the one is front of me.

Framing art within art

What attracted me to this scene is the person standing just on the edge of the hill next to the circular sculpture. It gives a sense of scale. I included the stairs in the frame to add some repeating pattern and depth, with the main subject in the centre.

Standing on the edge of the hill

Once at the top of the hill, I took these two people on each side of the central sculpture to create a triangular composition with symmetry.,

Looking at art

The people were admiring this view. You can see the sculptures in the park and in the far background Oslo.

The view

Even the toilets are stylish. But out of order.

Walking back to the hotel I found the gravel interesting. Once again I tried to include some symmetry in the shot.

Gravel

In the street I was interested by the tones in that building and the lights on.

Front door

Blinds are always a great source of symmetry and pattern. So I couldn’t resist when I saw those.

Blinds

The mix of textures was interesting on that building. Obviously I had to make it symmetrical.

Stone textures

This photo was taken by mistake as I was moving the camera.

My foot

See you another day.
