What happened to Rita Carl?

During my last visit in Paris, I went to a Richard Avedon exhibition at the Cartier-Bresson Foundation.

Rita Carl

The exhibition was an interesting snapshot of a time and place: the Southern US in the late 70s/early 80s. The portraits, all square facing the camera with white background, were mostly of everyday worker: coal or copper miners, oil field workers, shop owners and their employees, local mums, etc.

One of the photos struck me: Rita Carl. As it was the late 70s, she was probably 23 looking 40. Rita was a “law enforcement student” at the time. A rookie. I couldn’t help wondering whether she finished her training. Whether she became a cop. Whether she was retired by now.

I had a quick look around and couldn’t find any information. It doesn’t look like any more information about her has been posted since that photo. I don’t know where to look for information on US cops, so I have nothing else.

If you’re in Paris, it’s an exhibition well worth your time.
