Quincaillerie

Quincaillerie (iron monger or hardware store) is apparently a word English speakers pain to pronounce.

This woman was walking down the street and slowed down in front of the shop. The shop itself is the story: it used to be called Serge Blanco, who was a French rugby player in the 80s. He must have had a chain of shops in his name and I’m guessing they’ve disappeared.

The photo was taken with my Canon 350D + Tamron 28-300mm.

The processing was straightforward:

  • Increase contrast in the stone work.
  • Darken the pavement
  • Leave the rest untouched.
  • Add some film grain.

A software engineer looking 50 in the eye. Photography picked up over 20 years ago, then set aside as life intervened — and recently returned to, with a deliberate focus on monochrome. Also drawn to found negatives: rolls of film abandoned by strangers, full of lives worth rescuing from obscurity.
